Art

Aims and Intent

At Rosehill, we believe ART is an integral part of our society and culture both historically and in the modern world. It has influenced our way of life and documented our journey but more than that, it is a form of expression, freedom and unlocks the door to the soul...

Intent

Our intent is to ensure all pupils produce creative and imaginative work of a high standard. Children have the opportunity to explore their ideas and record their experiences, as well as exploring the work of others and evaluate different creative ideas. They will become confident and proficient in a variety of techniques including drawing, painting, sculpting, as well as other selected craft skills e.g. collage, printing, weaving and patterns.

Children will develop their knowledge of famous artists, designers and craft makers and develop their interest and curiosity about art and design through a progressive curriculum, offering children the opportunity to ask questions and demonstrate their skills in a variety of ways. We intend to offer the chance for children to develop their emotional expression through art to further enhance their personal, social and emotional development.

Implementation

Each unit will be taught through a clear sequence of lessons inspired by the history or geography focus.

Units will begin with inspiration from a great piece of art/artist and develop the skills of the medium to enable pupils to work towards a key piece showcasing the skills mastered.

Every year group focuses on different themes to ensure continued interest in the subject as well as acquiring new knowledge while each key stage will build on previous skills and knowledge by developing and refining more advanced techniques to take the learning forward.

Impact

Art and design learning will be enjoyed and loved by pupils and teachers throughout school. Teachers will have higher expectations which will be evidenced in outcomes and all children will be able to use technical vocabulary accurately, also know, apply and understand the skills and processes specified.

Children will improve their enquiry skills and inquisitiveness about the world around them, and their impact through art and design on the world. Through this, they will become more confident in analysing their work and giving their opinion on their own and other works of art.

Children will show competences in improving their resilience and perseverance by continually evaluating and improving their work and speak confidently about their work and skills.
