Science - The Digestive System

What fun we had learning about the digestive system this week.

This week, the children learnt about the human digestive system as part of their science topic.

After recapping our previous learning about the different types of teeth, we discussed what all animals need in order to survive.

When we had identified food as one of the requirements, we looked at how humans absorb the nutrients from the food as it moves through the digestive system.

We identified the different body parts involved in the digestive system and talked about their purpose before the real fun began.

Using a combination of bread, coca-cola, food bags and a pair of tights, the children explored what happens to their food as it reaches the different body parts involved in the digestive system.

The classroom was alive with conversation and when we got to the end of the digestive system there was a brilliant mixture of laughter and disgust as the waste products were evicted from the tights!

We can't wait to see what fun we have in store in our next science lessons!
