Children

Weekly Update

Summer 2, Week 4

Wow! It has been a warm week, but the children have worked hard despite the heat, with plenty of water breaks throughout the day. As a special treat, they enjoyed some ice lollies to help them cool down.

Maths
This week, the children began their new unit on money. They started by learning how to write amounts of money using decimals and how to convert between pounds and pence. They also demonstrated great skill when estimating amounts of money. By the end of the week, they were confidently calculating with money.

English
At the beginning of the week, the children learned how to use the present progressive tense. They then planned an explanatory text based on an animal of their choice. By the end of the week, they had begun writing their texts, ensuring they included all the key features of explanatory writing.

Reading
Our reading sessions this week focused on the second chapter of Pony in the Dark. The children continued to develop their retrieval and inference skills, applying them confidently during class discussions and in their written responses.

Geography
In Geography, the children explored how fossil fuel mining affects the Earth and its inhabitants. They focused on surface mining and enjoyed a hands-on activity using cookies and toothpicks to simulate the mining process.

PE
The children have continued with their swimming lessons this week and have shown noticeable improvements in both their technique and confidence in the water. It has been wonderful to see their progress.

Music
This week, the children continued with their samba unit. Using percussion instruments, they practised the rhythms they learned last week and successfully layered them together to create a richer musical performance.

PSHE
As part of Diversity Week, the children explored the different types of families people may have. They discussed how families can look different and may include blended families, same-sex families, foster families, or families where children are raised by grandparents. The children learned that love, care and support are what truly make a family.

Special Mentions:

Special mentions this week went to Blake B and Violet R in 4H, along with Thomas B and Tayla H in 4P for their effort and attitude this week. A big well done to you all!

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Warm regards,

Mr Piper & Mr Hampto
