Weekly Update

Weekly Update – Summer 2, Week 2

What a fantastic week we have had! It has been a busy and exciting one, filled with an anti-bullying performance, swimming lessons, and a memorable trip to the National Coal Mining Museum. With so many exciting activities planned for the coming weeks, the children have plenty to look forward to!

Maths
This week, the children completed their Multiplication Tables Check, which they have worked incredibly hard to prepare for. In addition, they completed their end-of-unit assessment on decimals, as well as an arithmetic paper. We are extremely proud of the effort they have shown and the excellent scores they achieved.

English
At the start of the week, the children were introduced to an explanation text about the lives of children during the Victorian era. They were challenged to continue the text independently, incorporating the features from our writing toolkit. Later in the week, the children began researching an animal of their choice, gathering notes to support their own explanation texts about its life cycle, habitat, and unique characteristics.

Reading
Our reading sessions this week have centred around our new class text, Pony in the Dark. The children have continued to develop their retrieval and inference skills, applying them confidently during class discussions and in their written responses.

Geography
In Geography, we launched our new topic by exploring what a mining community looks like. Using local maps, the children investigated the locations of mines in and around Rotherham and considered the impact mining had on local communities.

PE
The children have continued with their swimming lessons this week and have shown noticeable improvements in both their technique and confidence in the water. It has been wonderful to see their progress.

Music
This week marked the start of our new music unit, focusing on samba and carnival music. The children learned about the origins of samba music and were introduced to a variety of samba instruments before having the opportunity to play them themselves.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Warm regards,

Mr Piper & Mr Hampton
