Weekly Update

Summer 1, Week 2

As we come to the end of the second week of the summer term, it has been another busy and exciting week for the children, filled with lots of new learning and achievements.

Maths
This week, the children continued their work on fractions, learning how to subtract fractions from whole numbers before moving on to subtracting from mixed numbers. They have also been focusing on strengthening their times table knowledge in preparation for the Multiplication Tables Check.

English
This week, the children explored a new genre of writing by creating shape poems. They focused on key features such as rhyming, expanded noun phrases and alliteration. By the end of the week, they had produced their own shape poems based on different types of weather. Alongside this, the children also began researching China in preparation for writing a non-chronological report.

Reading
The children started working with non-fiction texts this term, with this week’s focus being on World War One. Through the text, they developed their vocabulary as well as their retrieval and inference skills.

Science
In Science, the children continued their learning in the Animals Including Humans unit. They were introduced to the different types of teeth and their functions and also learned about the important roles of the gums and jaw.

History
This week marked the start of our new History unit on World War One. In their first lesson, the children explored how the war began and looked at some of the key events that led to its outbreak.

Art
The children continued their art unit inspired by the artist Georgia O’Keeffe. This week, they focused on practising a range of oil pastel techniques, including blending and tinting.

PE
In PE, the children continued developing their cricket skills, focusing on bowling techniques and learning how these are applied within the game. They also visited the swimming baths for their first actual swimming lesson and the children did absolutely brilliantly.

PSHE
In PSHE, the children concluded the Healthy Me unit by celebrating their inner strength and developing their understanding of assertiveness.

Special Mentions
Congratulations to Kasey E and Freddie L (4H), and Tyler M and Blossom S (4P) for earning this week’s Special Mentions — a fantastic achievement!

Always Children
It was time to celebrate our Always Children this week. Congratulations to Maddison B and Persephone R (4H), and Ellie M and Charles P (4P) for being our very well-deserved recipients.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Warm regards,
Mr Piper & Mr Hampton
