Weekly Update

Summer 1, Week 1

We’ve had a very busy first week back with the highlight being our first swimming lesson – we are really proud of all the children for trying their hardest and we’re looking forward to seeing all the progress they’re going to make in the coming weeks. Here’s what else we’ve been up to this week:

Maths
In maths, we’ve been focusing on adding fractions and adding fractions to mixed numbers. Children will get more practice of this in their homework this week.

English
As we continue our unit on non-chronological reports, children have focused on edit and revising a poor example followed by independently writing the next section of a report.

Reading
It’s been our final week focusing on ‘Street Child’ as Jim’s story came to a happy ending; we also reflected on the many street children from the Victorian era who didn’t have such a happy ending. With this as our focus, we’ve been working on our vocabulary, retrieval and inference skills over the week.

Science

In science, children described the functions of the main organs of the digestive system.

Geography

In our final geography lesson on our unit on China, children researched UNESCO World Heritage Sites in both China and the UK before having a go at our end of unit assessment.

Art

Our first art lesson of the new unit focused on the style of our new artist, Georgia O’Keeffe.

Spanish

This half term, children will focus on the new unit, ‘Mi Casa’, which began this week with children learning how to pronounce five different rooms in the home in Spanish.

Special mentions this week went to Harry A and Poppy B in 4H, along with Grace R and the whole of 4P for their effort, learning behaviour and swimming this week. A big well done to all!

Thank you all for your continued support.
