Children

Weekly Update

Spring 2, Week 1

Welcome back after the half term holiday and, despite it only being a shorter week, we’ve been straight back into our learning in Year 4. Here is a look at what the children have been learning this week:

Maths
In maths, we have worked out missing lengths in rectilinear shapes before going on to calculate the perimeter of the shapes. We have started to look at the perimeter of regular polygons and this will continue next week.

English
This week, we have planned our persuasive letters based on living conditions for the poor in Victorian England. We have written our introduction and first paragraph and this will continue next week.

Reading
Life has gone from bad to worse in ‘Street Child’ as Jim has been sold to the horrible, Grimy Nick. We’ve been working on our vocabulary, retrieval and inference skills over the week linked to the most recent chapters.

Geography

Our new geography unit started this week; our unit is based on Asia with a focus on China. Our first lesson revisited the concept of climate change from Year 3 and considered two futures the world might hold.

DT

Our new DT unit is based on food and the children really enjoyed sampling different salads and vegetables in preparation for creating their own salad bowl.

Music

Using our new music scheme, Kapow, children appraised two different ballads, comparing the different musical styles in each.

RE

In RE, children considered what forgiveness means to Christians using some role play scenarios.

PE

In the first lesson of our new basketball unit, children learnt how to dribble with their head up and practised dribbling the ball using their fingers as opposed to just the palms of their hands.

Special mentions this week went to Florence B and Scarlett G in 4H, along with Amelia K and Millan T in 4P for their overall effort and attitude to learning this week. Congratulations to you all!

Thank you all for your continued support.
