Weekly Update

Spring 1, Week 3

Weekly Update

All the children have been doing lots of learning this week; our Victorian Era topic and new science topic have been two of the week’s highlights. Here is a look at what else the children have been learning about this week:

Maths
In maths, we have progressed from multiplying by 10 and 100 to dividing by 10 and 100. We have also started to practise the written method for multiplying 2-digits by 1-digits.

English
This week, we have been very busy drafting, editing and publishing our narratives. The children have worked really hard on these and we’re looking forward to seeing the final results next week.

Reading
‘Street Child’ continues to engage the children as we discovered what happened to Jim and his friend, Tip. We’ve been working on our vocabulary, retrieval and inference skills across the course of the week.

History

Our Victorian Era topic has focused on our local area this week as we’ve been comparing the similarities and differences from Rawmarsh in the 1800s to Rawmarsh today. We then considered whether the Industrial Revolution had a positive or negative impact on people in Britain.

Science
We’ve launched our new science topic on Electricity this week and children have been understanding the key points around electrical safety, creating posters to demonstrate their understanding.

Art

In our first art lesson of our new topic, the children investigated the works of Keith Haring – the focus artist this half term. The children were intrigued by his unique style of artistry.

Spanish

Children continued with our ‘Mi Familia’ (My Family) topic by learning how to ask and answer questions around whether they have any siblings.

Computing

This week, children progressed with their programming skills by learning how to draw different letters including their own initials.

PE

We continued our gymnastics unit by practising how to land, ensuring we land in a safe and secure balance.

Special mentions this week went to Ethan G and Nectaria O in 4H, along with Deborah D and Macie W in 4P for their overall effort and attitude to learning during this first week back. Congratulations to all of you!

Thank you all for your continued support.
