Weekly Update

After the excitement of our trip to Castleton, we have been working hard during a full week back in school. Here’s a look at what we’ve been learning this week.

Maths
In maths, we have been working hard to understand and use number lines up to 10,000. We have also started comparing numbers ahead of our ordering work next week.

English
The children have been busy mind-mapping and planning their character descriptions of The Iron Man. We were really pleased with the content of their short, independent writes earlier in the week.

Reading
We have focused our vocabulary, retrieval and inference skills on Chapter 3 of The Iron Man where Hogarth helps The Iron Man out.

History
We have been using our comparison skills in history comparing the Egyptian people’s use of the River Nile to how the Indus Valley Civilisation (IVC) used the River Indus. Children also identified the main trading partners of the IVC.

Science
It was investigation time during science this week as we looked at the effect that salt has on melting ice.

Spanish
We developed our Spanish skills by asking for someone’s name before using this in a Spanish-speaking conversation asking ‘How are you?’ and ‘What is your name?’ in one back-and-forth conversation.

PE
In PE, we continued to focus on dribbling using both the outstep and instep focusing on keeping our dribble closer as we ‘followed the leader’ around the MUGA.

Computing
We looked at how information can be shared on the world wide web and children did very well in their mini-quiz at the end of the lesson.

Art
In art, the children have been developing their block printing skills as they work towards producing their first original piece inspired by Hokusai.

It was LKS2’s turn for Always children this week so a big well done goes to Nectaria O and Leela P from 4H, alongside Tayla H and Mia M from 4P in recognition of their consistently excellent learning behaviour.

Special mentions were awarded to Chase M-F and Persephone R in 4H, and Oscar S and Lily S in 4P for their hard work and dedication to their learning this week. Well done to all!
