Weekly Update

AU1 WK1

We’ve come to the end of our very first week in Year 4 after the summer holidays. Although it was a shorter week, the children have been busy settling in beautifully and we are so excited for the year ahead!

Maths
In maths, we have begun our first unit on place value. The children have been learning how to represent and partition numbers up to 1,000 with confidence.

English
Our English lessons began with revisiting nouns and adjectives before moving on to our first writing genre: character descriptions. To get started, the children described well-known cartoon characters to their partners without revealing their names. Later in the week, they explored the features of a character description, working together to spot them in an example text.

Reading
This week’s reading sessions introduced us to Ted Hughes, the author of The Iron Man, which will be our focus text for this half term. The children enjoyed predicting what the story might be about, before taking part in a fact hunt and quiz to learn more about the author himself.

PE
In PE, Year 4 began their first indoor unit on fundamentals, focusing on developing balance. The children rotated around a variety of stations, each with different activities designed to build this important skill.

History
Our history topic for this term is the Indus Valley civilisation. This week, the children discovered what the Indus Valley was, where it was located and why it was such a significant civilisation. They also compared it to the Bronze Age to build a deeper understanding.

Special Mentions
A big congratulations to this week’s special mentions: Reuben J and Nectaria O (4H), and Ela B and Harley B-H (4P). Well done to each of you!

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Warm regards,
Mr Piper & Mr Hampton
