Summer 1 Week 6
As we reach the end of the first summer term, it’s amazing to see how far the children have come. With just one term remaining before they move up to Year 5, they’ve continued to work hard and stay engaged across all subjects. Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve been learning this week.
Maths:
In maths, the children have been learning how to divide both one-digit and two-digit numbers by 100. They also completed their end-of-unit assessment on decimals and showed a strong understanding of the topic.
English:
In English, we began exploring our new writing focus: newspaper reports. The children looked at real newspaper articles and took part in a drama activity, acting as reporters. They also identified key features of this genre by studying a model text to help prepare for their own writing.
Reading:
Our reading sessions have focused on a text about the end of the war. The children have shown great progress in developing their retrieval and inference skills through their work with this text.
PE:
During PE, the children continued with their swimming lessons, making noticeable improvements in both technique and confidence. They also played team games that helped build their cooperation and communication skills.
History:
In history, we studied the Treaty of Versailles and discussed the actions Germany had to take following the end of World War I.
Science:
In science, we continued our unit on Living Things. This week, the children explored how organisms can be classified using classification keys, strengthening their ability to group and describe living things.
Spanish:
During our Spanish lessons, the children have been learning the names of different rooms in the house and are now able to describe what rooms are in their own homes using Spanish vocabulary.
Art:
In art, we studied the work of Georgia O’Keeffe. The children practised and built upon techniques they’ve previously learned to create artwork inspired by her unique style.
Special Mentions:
Congratulations to our special mention children this week: Allan and Tadisa (4H) along with Aleiyah B and Freddie (4P). A big well done to you all!
Thank you for your continued support,
Mr Piper & Mr Hampton.
