End of Summer 1 Week 6 Messages and Updates

What a way to finish the half-term! We have had the most amazing week in Y5 this week. On Monday, we had a group of our girls representing the school in a Dynamos cricket tournament - well done to Lola A, Lola F, Daisy, Emily B, Emily Y, Freya, Sophie Li and Sophie La who represented Rosehill in the best possible way – with smiles on their faces and with great sportsmanship throughout the day.

On Tuesday, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Magna – where the children were treated to a history of steel, its uses and how it can be shaped and given time to explore the different zones - before we headed off to the New York Stadium for a stadium tour and a quick lesson into the history of Rotherham United.

On Thursday, another group of year 5 girls represented Rosehill in a football tournament - well done to Lola A, Lola F, Olivia, Hollie, Emily B and Sophie who were part of a successful afternoon as the girls finished Runners up in the Karen Walker shield.

Congratulations to our winners of special mentions awards this week: Jakub, Isla, Ella-May and Lincoln.

A huge congratulations to our stars of the half term - Charlotte and Lola A.

In English this week, we have enjoyed writing our own setting descriptions, using the range of features we have been taught.

In maths this week, we have enjoyed looking at multiplying and dividing numbers by powers of 10.

In guided reading this week, we have enjoyed getting further into our novel 'Floodlands'. Our answers to vocabulary and retrieval questions are improving and the detail some children are now adding to their answers to inference questions is extremely impressive - they are learning what is needed to collect marks in longer questions.

In P.E. this week, we enjoyed our athletics lessons.

In history this week, we completed our unit on the Shang Dynasty, comparing it with other civilisations around at the same time.

In languages this week, we completed our unit of work on clothing.

In art this week, we started finished our own piece of work using a style similar to Monet and our school field as our landscape.

We now have a week off - please enjoy the lovely weather with the children. We are looking forward to a great final half-term together when we come back.
