Children

End of Summer 1 Week 4 Messages and Updates

It has felt a bit strange this week after starting with a bank holiday on Monday, but the children have still managed plenty of highlights in the remaining four school days.

Firstly, congratulations to our winners of special mentions awards this week: Aleiyah, Dennis, Carson and Ethan.

In English this week, we continued using taught features to write a detailed biography about a man called Kenton Cool. We then worked hard with editing partners to improve what we had written before publishing our work. The children should be really proud of the biographies they have managed to produce.

In maths this week, we have enjoyed learning about translation and reflection of points and shapes. We have drawn lines of symmetry with increasing accuracy and solved plenty of problems throughout the week.

In guided reading this week, we have enjoyed getting further into our novel 'Floodlands'. The detail we are answering questions with now is improving and we are getting more used to writing longer answers to questions.

In computing this week, we had an absolute blast using the microbits in order to create a virtual pet - for those of you old enough, think Tamagotchis (late 1990s). We learnt how to get a reaction from our pets when we created different inputs.

In P.E. this week, we enjoyed developing skills in both cricket and athletics.

In history this week, we compared how the Shang would treat their prisoners of war with how other civilisations have done this over time. We also looked at who held the real power in the Shang Dynasty.

In languages this week, we continued our unit of work on clothing.

In art this week, we started creating our own piece of work using a style similar to Monet and our school field as our landscape.

Next week is SATs week for our year 6 children so there are slight tweaks across school to timetables and where support staff are deployed in order to ensure they have the best possible chance of success (it won't be long until it is your child's turn!) We will keep the children updated so that they are aware of any changes to daily routines and support them with these.

We also have another visit from PC Paul who will be talking with the Y5 and Y6 children about water safety on Thursday afternoon.
