Children

End of Autumn 1 Week 4 - Messages and Updates

Another great week in year 5 this week - there have been plenty of little improvements throughout the week. My personal highlights have been reading some of the pieces of writing the children have produced, seeing so many correct answers during maths lessons, even though we've been working on rounding which is hard, and watching the children learn how to pass a rugby ball properly in our P.E. lessons

We completed our second spelling tests on Monday and the results were great considering how hard the spellings were - thank you - we know that the results are down to the excellent support they are getting from home.

We also now have nearly everyone signed up to boomreader. Some of the children are getting dojo points every morning which is an incredibly positive way for them to start the day - thank you to all the parents who have got on board with this. The reading competitions have started so please log any home reading you do on boomreader so the children get their rewards in school - we've had our first child (Sophie) pass 20 reading logs for the year - well done Sophie!

P.E. kit - it is getting colder now so jogging bottoms/jumpers are a great idea to include in a P.E. kit on Tuesday.

Times tables - please spend a little time each night practising times table questions with the children. They will come home have a range of strategies they have been taught at school including singing, chanting and learning their table facts by rote. We apologise for ruining any nursery rhymes for you by turning them into times table songs.

Next week:

In English, we will publish our first piece of writing - a persuasive brochure on Ancient Greece.

In guided reading, we will continue answering questions based around our text, Percy Jackson - Lightning Thief.

In maths, we will continue learning about addition and subtraction.

In history, we will continue our topic on Ancient Greece, looking at Alexander the Great and questioning whether he really was great.

In P.E., we will continue our two units this week, tag rugby and fitness.

In science, we will look at which materials dissolve.

In computing, we will look at refining searches on internet search engines.

In PSHE, we will look at our actions and how these have consequences.

In Spanish, we will continue our unit of work looking at pets.

In Art, we will start exploring printing using repeating patterns.
