Children

End of Autumn 1 Week 3 Messages and Updates

Another great week in year 5 this week. We have continued settling really well and our routines are definitely helping the children.

We completed our first spelling tests on Monday and the results were absolutely brilliant from most of the children - thank you - we know that the results are down to the excellent support they are getting from home.

We also now have nearly everyone signed up to boomreader. Some of the children are getting dojo points every morning which is an incredibly positive way for them to start the day - thank you to all the parents who have got on board with this. The reading competitions have started so please log any home reading you do on boomreader so the children get their rewards in school.

Uniform - please label all pieces of uniform as soon as possible so that any items the children misplace throughout the year have a better chance of making their way back to you. We try our best to make sure the children look after their clothes but there are many jumpers and coats left around the school each day so labelling them is a great idea.

P.E. kit - again please label all items. P.E. kits should be sent into school on Monday and the children should bring them home to you on Friday. It's always good to have a change of clothes in school in case of emergency. Our P.E. days this week are Tuesday (weather permitting) and Thursday. Please remember to remove earrings prior to school if the children can't take them out themselves.

Times tables - please spend a little time each night practising times table questions with the children. They will come home have a range of strategies they have been taught at school including singing, chanting and learning their table facts by rote.

Next week:

We are carrying out kit checks for our upcoming residential to Herd Farm. Please either send your children in with their kit or come and show us after school. We would like to see waterproof footwear, waterproof trousers, waterproof coat and a rucksack - all labelled with your child's name.

In English, we will continue writing our very own persuasive brochure.

In guided reading, we will continue answering questions based around our new text, Percy Jackson - Lightning Thief.

In maths, we will continue learning about place value before moving on to addition and subtraction.

In history, we will continue our topic on Ancient Greece, looking at different sources of evidence and what they tell us about life in the past.

In P.E., we will continue our two units this week, tag rugby and fitness.

In science, we will start looking at the properties of materials and how we can test these.

In computing, we will look at how computers are linked together to form systems.

In PSHE, we will look at how we are citizens of our country.

In Spanish, we will continue our new unit of work looking at pets.

In Art, we will start our new unit of work by looking at line drawings.
