Children

End of Autumn 2 Week 2 Messages and Updates

What a great second week the children had at Rosehill. There were so many dojo points earned as both Y5 classes settled into their routines. We have most children now logging home reading on Boomreader - reading at home being key this year. We have also started a big push on times tables and spelling so expect the children to come home and tell you what new techniques they have learnt to help them commit these to memory.

Uniform - please label all pieces of uniform as soon as possible so that any items the children misplace throughout the year have a better chance of making their way back to you. We try our best to make sure the children look after their clothes but there are many jumpers and coats left around the school each day so labelling them is a great idea.

P.E. kit - again please label all items. P.E. kits should be sent into school on Monday and the children should bring them home to you on Friday. It's always good to have a change of clothes in school in case of emergency. Our P.E. days this week are Tuesday (weather permitting) and Thursday. Please remember to remove earrings prior to school if the children can't take them out themselves.

Spellings - it's our first spelling test this afternoon so watch for the children bringing home their next set of spellings this afternoon and results being posted on classdojo.

Times tables - please spend a little time each night practising times table questions with the children. They will come home have a range of strategies they have been taught at school including singing, chanting and learning their table facts by rote.

Next week:

In English, we will continue learning about brochures before planning ideas for our very own persuasive brochure.

In guided reading, we will continue answering questions based around our new text, Percy Jackson - Lightning Thief.

In maths, we will continue learning about place value before moving on to addition and subtraction.

In history, we will continue our topic on Ancient Greece, looking at different sources of evidence and what they tell us about life in the past.

In P.E., we will continue our two units this week, tag rugby and fitness.

In science, we will start looking at the properties of materials and how we can test these.

In computing, we will look at how computers are linked together to form systems.

In PSHE, we will look at how we are citizens of our country.

In Spanish, we will continue our new unit of work looking at pets.

In Art, we will start our new unit of work by looking at line drawings.
