U11s Girls Football Team

On Tuesday March 14th a team of 10 superstars set off with Mr Wilkinson and Mrs Gyte to represent Rosehill at a school games competition held at Clifton School.

Six of the girls had been part of the football club run by Rotherham United during the autumn and spring terms, developing their skill set under the tutelage of the coaches.

Olivia, Phoebe, Ruby, Emily, Jasmine, Tahlia, Kadie, Leah, Brogan and Megan played a total of 5 games throughout the day.

The girls managed a draw in the first game against St Gerards with Leah scoring the first goal. In the second game, the team came up against a brilliant player from St Bedes who managed to score all the goals in a 5-0 defeat for Rosehill. The next three games were all cagey affairs against Maltby Lily Hall, Coleridge and Roughwood with the girls narrowly losing to each of their opponents 1-0.

Upon returning to school, the girls sat with Mr MacDonald and reflected on a fantastic day spent in the company of new friends, friendly opponents and supportive staff. They had the following to say:

Olivia - I enjoyed being the goalie for the team because I performed lots of really important saves.

Phoebe - I liked it because I created the goal that our team scored in the first game.

Ruby - I enjoyed playing against other teams from different schools.

Emily - I enjoyed it because I was good at tackling opposition players.

Jasmine - I enjoyed having the opportunity to go up against different schools.

Tahlia - I was better defending than when I played in midfield.

Kadie - I enjoyed it because I got to see someone who used to be in our class but moved schools when she was in year 3.

Leah - I loved it when I scored a goal in the first game.

Brogan - I enjoyed the day because I got to make new friends.

Megan - I enjoyed it because we got to work as a team.

Mr Wilkinson - We are so proud of the girls. For a lot of them, representing the school at a tournament was a brand new experience and they were a credit to our school. I was incredibly proud to be at the tournament with them.
