Autumn Term - Week 7

🌟 Year 6 Weekly Round-Up – Autumn 1, Week 7 🌟
Just when you think it couldn’t get any busier… it does! 🤯😂 WOW, what a week we’ve had in Year 6! It’s been absolutely jam-packed with learning, trips, visitors and plenty of excitement!
📝 Writing
We’ve started our brand-new writing unit on non-chronological reports. This week, we’ve been putting our detective skills to the test, spotting features of effective reports using our writing toolkits and the Year 6 Writing Assessment Framework. We’ve had some brilliant discussions about what makes a successful piece of writing!
📖 Reading
We’ve reached the dramatic climax of Room 13! 😱🧛 Fliss and her friends have FINALLY managed to overpower the vampire lurking in Room 13! But is that really the end of the nightmare? Will everything go back to normal? We’ll have to wait and see! 👀
➗ Maths
LONG DIVISION! 😅
This week, we’ve introduced the children to long division, and we have been absolutely blown away by their resilience, determination and willingness to keep going when things get tricky!
It’s certainly not an easy method to master, but so many children have shown a fantastic attitude, using every spare moment to practise the method again and again until it finally clicks! 💪👏
We’ve also had a little help from a rather catchy song to remember the steps. Apologies in advance if you end up hearing it on repeat at home! 😂🎶

🌍 Wider Curriculum
What a variety of experiences we’ve had this week!
🚨 Tuesday – Crucial Crew
We had a brilliant trip to Crucial Crew, where the children took part in a range of important workshops learning how to keep themselves and others safe. From road and fire safety to understanding the dangers of crime and antisocial behaviour, it was a fantastic day packed with valuable life lessons!
👮 Thursday – Safety Talk with PC Paul
We welcomed PC Paul into school for an important talk about staying safe during Halloween and Bonfire Night. With both events fast approaching, it was a great opportunity to remind the children about making sensible choices and keeping themselves and others safe.
💃 Friday – Peter Pan Dance Workshops
We finished the week in style with some fantastic dance workshops in partnership with the Peter Pan pantomime at Rotherham Civic Theatre and RISE Dance Academy! A brilliant opportunity for the children to get moving, have fun and show off some dance moves! 🕺✨
🏆 Stars of the Week
⭐ 6A – Archie S
⭐ 6M – Aleyah A
A huge well done to you both! 👏🌟
📢 Reminders for Next Week
🥫 Harvest Donations
If anyone has any spare tins, jars, pasta, rice or other non-perishable food items they can donate, we’d be really grateful if you could send them into school with the children.
📚 Reading Journals
Please keep reminding the children to bring their reading journals into school every day. It’s been fantastic seeing how many children are now reading regularly at home! We check and sign journals daily, and children are rewarded with Dojo points for their efforts. Keep it up! 📖👏
🎃 Halloween Disco – Tuesday!
Our Halloween disco takes place on Tuesday from 3:10pm until 4:30pm, with tickets costing just £1.
Children are also invited to wear their Halloween costumes to school on Tuesday, so we’re looking forward to seeing some fantastic (and probably terrifying!) outfits! 👻🕷️
And that’s another week done! 😅 One more week until half-term, although judging by how busy things have been lately, I’m sure we’ll manage to squeeze plenty more in before then!
Have a fantastic weekend, everyone!
