Weekly Update

Autumn 1, Week 2

It’s been a busy first full week back as Year 4 have really gotten their teeth into our new learning units across the curriculum. In PE, children have impressed staff with their dribbling skills especially during windy weather. Their close control and ability to recover the ball was good to see. We have also started our new text, The Iron Man, in guided reading. It has been challenging to adapt to higher level vocabulary, retrieval and inference-style questioning and the children have applied themselves to this challenge.

In science, we investigated how particles behave in solids, liquids and gases, and looked at some examples of each. We were excited to learn that citizens of the Indus Valley wore bracelets and necklaces made from wooden carvings – imagine how heavy the jewellery must have been!

Spelling assessments have taken place today and children have been placed into their spelling groups ready for next week. Mr Hampton will contact parents/carers individually to let you know which group your child is in. Spellings will then be posted to Dojos so children can practise.

A separate dojo post has been made about homework and we would love to see as many children as possible completing the homework. Homework is set on a Friday to be returned the following Friday. Any support you can offer to your child to complete this is greatly appreciated.

Special Mentions:
Special mentions this week went to Alice in 4H and Alara in 4P for their efforts and positive learning attitude. Well done to you both!

Next week sees the start of our Castleton kit check so children can start bringing in their kit from next week.

Have a lovely weekend and thank you for your valued support.
