Weekly Update

Summer 2, Week 5.
Weekly Update
Thankfully, it has been a little cooler this week so learning has been a bit easier. We have had lots going on across the curriculum so please read on to find out more.
Maths
This week, we completed our unit on money and children scored highly on the end of unit assessment. We then dived straight into our next unit on time and we have already covered lots of topics including years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds, and the relationships between them all respectively.
English
We have made excellent progress with our explanation texts. Children have finished their plan, written their first draft and spent time editing with peers. We are really concentrating on using our toolkits to ensure our writing meets the purpose.
Reading
Our focus this week has been the third chapter of ‘Pony in the Dark’. We’ve been really impressed with the children’s vocabulary acquisition this week as they quickly learnt some tricky words in our new chapter.
Geography
In geography, we explored the miners’ strike and the reasons behind it. We also considered the advantages and disadvantages of mining on a local community.
PE
The children have practised some of the activities for Sports Day as well as continuing their progress in swimming lessons. With two lessons to go, we’re really seeing great progress from everyone.
Science
Science this week focused on the sorting and classifying of different animals into different categories. It was interesting to see how some animals could fit into more than one category.
Music
In the next lesson on our samba unit, children learned how to insert a simple rhythmic break into a song ready for a live performance.
RE
In RE, children explored the parts of a Muslim’s life that might be helped by engaging in regular prayer.
Special Mentions:
Special mentions this week went to Poppy B and Harley M in 4H, along with Ela B, Ellie M and Grace R in 4P for their excellent work. A big well done to everyone!
Next week sees the children joining their new Y5 class for three days (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). We’re looking forward to seeing how they get on in their new environments ahead of the new academic year.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
