Summer 1, Week 6
We have finally reached the end of Summer Term 1! It has been a very busy week with swimming lessons, book fairs, class photos, and lots of fantastic learning taking place across the school.
Maths
This week, the children have begun a new unit on decimals. They have shown great confidence when partitioning and flexibly partitioning decimal numbers. In addition, they have been able to compare and order decimals accurately.
English
At the beginning of the week, the children completed and published their non-chronological reports, which show clear improvement and progress. They have now started a new genre: explanatory texts. The children have learnt the key features of explanatory texts and have been able to identify these within examples.
Reading
Our reading lessons have continued to link closely with our World War I history topic through a non-fiction text about the Treaty of Versailles. The children have worked hard to develop their vocabulary, retrieval, and inference skills by exploring the text in greater depth.
History
In History this week, the children investigated what the Treaty of Versailles was. They learnt about the “Big Three” and their different views on how Germany should be treated. The children were fascinated by the agreements Germany had to sign and were able to explain whether they felt these were fair or not.
PSHE
In PSHE, the children learnt that boyfriend and girlfriend relationships are personal and special, and that nobody should feel pressured into having one. They also learnt that relationships can be between people of the same gender or different genders, and that all families and relationships should be treated with respect, kindness, and understanding.
Special Mentions
Congratulations to Harry A and Nectaria O (4H), along with Freya F and George L (4P), for receiving this week’s Special Mentions — a fantastic achievement!
Star of the Half Term
We celebrated our Stars of the Half Term, an award given to children who consistently go above and beyond in their effort, attitude, and approach to school life. Congratulations to Persephone R (4H) and Ellie M (4P) for being our very well-deserved Stars of the Half Term!
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Warm regards,
Mr Piper & Mr Hampton
