Summer 1, Week 4
As we reach the end of Week 4 of the summer term, the children have continued to work incredibly hard and have enjoyed another exciting week filled with new learning opportunities and achievements.
Maths
This week, the children built on their understanding of decimals. They became more confident when dividing 1- and 2-digit numbers by 10 and explored hundredths both as fractions and decimals. By the end of the week, they were successfully placing numbers containing tenths and hundredths onto a place value chart.
English
The children continued writing their non-chronological reports about China. They have now begun completing their final drafts and have carefully edited their work to improve punctuation, grammar, and spelling.
Reading
Our reading lessons remained linked to our World War I history topic through the poem Dulce et Decorum Est. The children worked hard to develop their vocabulary, retrieval, and inference skills through exploring the text in greater depth.
History
In history this week, the children investigated a range of inventions created during World War I. Working collaboratively, they debated which invention had the greatest impact on the war effort and justified their opinions thoughtfully.
Art
The children continued their art unit inspired by the artist Georgia O’Keeffe. This week, they began creating their final pieces, focusing on the use of bright colours, abstract designs, and blending techniques.
Special Mentions
Congratulations to Chase M-F and Persephone R (4H), along with Molly L and Oscar S (4P), for receiving this week’s Special Mentions — a wonderful achievement!
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Warm regards,
Mr Piper & Mr Hampton
