Weekly Update

Spring 2, Week 5

As we reach the end of the spring term, it has been a very busy and exciting week. A highlight was our visit to church for the Easter service. The children who had speaking and acting roles did brilliantly, and everyone sang beautifully—it was a really special experience for all.

Maths:
This week, the children continued their work on fractions. They learnt how to convert mixed numbers into improper fractions and vice versa. Towards the end of the week, they focused on finding equivalent fractions on a number line.

English:
The children explored the key features of a non-chronological report and then compared and contrasted two different examples.

Reading:
Street Child continues to be a class favourite as Jim searches for work at the circus. Throughout the week, the children developed their vocabulary, as well as their retrieval and inference skills.

Science:
In Science, the children began their new unit on animals including humans. They were introduced to the digestive system and identified the different organs involved.

Geography:
This week, the children investigated which countries are the most polluted. They explored renewable and non-renewable energy sources and learnt about the reasons why Asia is considered the most polluted continent.

Design and Technology:
Our D&T project came to an end this week. The children evaluated their salad snack pots, discussing what they liked and suggesting improvements for the future.

PE:
In basketball, the children focused on using space effectively to create better shooting opportunities.

PSHE:
In PSHE, the children learnt about alcohol, including its effects on health and some of the reasons why people may choose to drink.

Special Mentions:
Congratulations to Florence B and Blake B (4H) and Astro A and Kacey M (4P) for earning this week’s special mentions!

Star of the Half Term:
It was time to celebrate our Stars of the Half Term. Congratulations to Reuben J (4H) and Eden W (4P) for being our well-deserved Stars of the Half Term.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support!

Warm regards,

Mr Piper & Mr Hampton.
