Weekly Update
As we come to the end of Spring Term 1, the children have continued to work incredibly hard across all areas of the curriculum. We are very pleased with the progress they are making. Below is an overview of this week’s learning:
Maths:
This week, the children focused on finding equivalent lengths using kilometres and metres. They also learned how to calculate the perimeter of rectangles and rectilinear shapes.
English:
The children continued developing their persuasive writing skills. At the beginning of the week, they wrote the next section of a persuasive letter. They then explored how to use superlatives and exaggeration effectively. To finish the week, the children generated ideas for their own persuasive letter about the living conditions of poor people during the Victorian era.
Reading:
Street Child remains a firm favourite, especially as the children discovered that Jim had been sold to Grimy Nick. Throughout the week, they focused on developing their vocabulary, retrieval, and inference skills.
Science:
In Science, the children continued their learning about electricity. They investigated circuits to identify which materials are conductors and which are insulators.
History:
This week marked the end of our History unit on the Victorian era and the Industrial Revolution. The children explored what they believe to be the most impactful aspect of the Victorian era on Britain today.
Art:
The children completed their artwork inspired by Keith Haring, carefully adding the bold black outlines that are characteristic of his style.
Spanish:
The children concluded their Mi Familia (My Family) topic by revisiting key vocabulary and structures before completing their end-of-unit assessment.
PE:
In gymnastics, the children created and performed a partner sequence that included balances and rolls they had learned in previous lessons. They confidently performed their routines to the class and provided thoughtful feedback to one another.
Computing:
This week, the children completed their computing unit by learning how to use procedures to create repeating patterns.
Special Mentions:
Congratulations to Poppy B and Jenson M (4H) and Tayla H and Ellie M (4P) for earning this week’s special mentions!
Star of the Half Term:
It was time to celebrate our Stars of the Half Term. An award given to children who have consistently gone above and beyond in their effort, attitude and approach to school life throughout the term. Congratulations to Nectaria O (4H) and Oscar S (4P) for being our well-deserved Stars of the Half Term.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support!
Warm regards,
Mr Piper & Mr Hampton
