⭐ Year 6 Weekly Learning Summary ⭐
This week has been packed with brilliant learning across the curriculum after our Christmas break! Here’s a snapshot of what Year 6 have been working on:
📚 English / Guided Reading – Goodnight Mister Tom
Finished our flashback writing from Willie’s perspective, focusing on events during the Blitz
Used descriptive language and emotions to show Willie’s thoughts and feelings
Worked hard to edit and improve writing, showing excellent progress
📖 Reading – Pig Heart Boy
Started our new class novel Pig Heart Boy
Read and discussed Chapters 1 and 2
Explored first impressions of characters and themes, sharing thoughtful predictions
➗ Maths – Fractions
Completed our fractions unit this week
Children showed fantastic understanding in the end-of-unit assessments
Some excellent scores achieved – a real credit to their hard work and perseverance!
🤸 PE – Gymnastics
Practised a range of gymnastic rolls
Focused on control, balance and safe technique
Worked collaboratively to improve performance and confidence
🌍 History – World War II
Finished our WWII topic
Learned about the Battle of Britain and the impact of The Blitz
Discussed how these events affected people living in Britain at the time
🔬 Science – Electricity
Built working fans using our knowledge of electrical circuits
Applied understanding of components such as switches, motors and power sources
Great teamwork and problem-solving skills on display
🧵 DT – Make Do and Mend
Began stitching our Make Do and Mend school jumpers
Practised basic sewing skills carefully and safely
Linked our work to wartime attitudes towards reuse and repair
