Weekly Update

Auutmn 2, Week 2

It’s been a slightly different week in Year 4 and across school with special events for Remembrance and Michael Rosen Day. Read on to find out what we have been up to this week.

Maths
In maths, we have moved onto area as children have discovered what area is for the first time and used squares to count and compare how big shapes are.

English
We are well into our diary writing in English. Children have been working hard and using their toolkits to ensure all the features of a diary are included. All the class created their own poem based on the Michael Rosen book, ‘Hot Food: Nice!’ as part of our celebration of Michael Rosen Day.

Reading
In guided reading, our text has focused on World Oceans Day. We have used our vocabulary, retrieval and inference skills to good effect this week.

Geography

This week, we learnt about the different parts of a river: upper course, middle course and lower course, and where a river’s journey begins and ends.

Science
In science, we started our new unit on Sound, investigating how sounds are made and looking at what is vibrating when we hear everyday sounds around school.

RE
In RE, the children continued their unit exploring which Christmas symbols might link to the story of Jesus’ birth.

Music
In music, the children performed ‘Blackbird’ as a whole class for the first time; we hope you enjoyed the video on ClassDojo.

DT

Our first DT unit of the year started this week and the children investigated different mechanisms within moving books.

Remembrance

The children took part in a special Remembrance Day assembly on Tuesday this week which finished with a rendition of ‘The Last Post’ followed by a very well observed two-minute silence.

Battle of the Bands

Congratulations to 4P who were crowned Battle of the Bands winners for Year 4! Will 4P take the crown next time or will 4H use this as motivation to claim victory? A huge well done to all the children in both classes who used TTRS this past week.

Special mentions this week went to Rebeca D and Persephone R in 4H, alongside Freya F and Tyler M in 4P for their hard work and attitude to learning this week. Well done to you all!

Thank you all for your continued support.
