Summer 2 Week 6
Weekly Update
As we near the end of the summer term, we bid farewell to our current Year 4 cohort as they prepare to transition into Year 5. It has been a fantastic year, and we are truly sad to see them go.
Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to this week:
Maths
The children began a new unit focused on time. They explored the relationships between years, months, weeks, and days, as well as hours, minutes, and seconds. They also practised converting between analogue and digital clocks.
English
In English, the children completed the final section of their engaging newspaper reports. Working in pairs, they edited and critiqued each other’s work, showing great collaboration and attention to detail.
Reading
This week’s reading sessions centred on Pony in the Dark. The children showed excellent progress in their retrieval and inference skills, applying them thoughtfully in both discussion and written tasks.
PE
Our swimming lessons continued this week, and it’s been wonderful to see the children’s confidence and technique grow with each session. They also put their skills into practice during a game of cricket, showcasing great teamwork and enthusiasm.
Geography
We investigated the decline of the mining industry. The children took part in a lively class debate about the key reasons behind mine closures, followed by an end-of-unit assessment where they demonstrated strong knowledge recall. A highlight of the week was interviewing Mr Smith, a former miner, who shared valuable first-hand experiences.
Special Mentions
A big congratulations to this week’s special mentions: Carson and Dakota (4H), and Miller and Kray (4P). Well done to each of you!
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Warm regards,
Mr Piper & Mr Hampton
