Welcome to year 4!
This year our team comprises of Mr MacDonald, Mr Curtis, Mrs Hepworth, Miss Swallow and Mr Wilkinson.
Our P.E. days are Tuesday and Wednesday but we ask that children have their P.E. kits in school Monday to Friday.
After an exciting but noisy Autumn Term project, we are now switching our focus in year four to a mini-project all about the Romans. We've discussed what we think we know and what we'd like to find out about them already as well as discussing the validity of evidence, how to research as historians and placing historical events on a timeline.
The next part of our project is the most exciting - the children take control and follow their own areas of interest to research, record and then present their findings.
Our novel study for the Spring and Summer terms is the fantastic 'Private Peaceful' by Michael Morpurgo. Please ask the children to keep you up to date on the latest twists and turns in the novel and tell you all about the characters they meet along the way.
The children have been given new homework menus in their books. Homework tasks can be taken from the menu and completed at any point during the week. Homework can be brought in on any day of the week and dojo points will be awarded accordingly for children completing tasks.
As well as the homework tasks, we are expecting children to be reading 5 times a week at home, and again, dojo points will be awarded to those children who complete this task.
The children will also be getting ready for the times table assessment they will be sitting in June. Expect them to come home excited about making progress on TT rockstars. This is an online programme which allows them to practise their times tables and use an assessment which recreates the assessment they will sit in June.
Year 4 are leading the way when it comes to the whole school reading challenge. We have managed to earn the most certificates in school as well as having the first gold certificate presented to Connor for reading 15 of the challenge books. Well done Connor!
