Welcome to year 4! Our team this year consists of Mr MacDonald, Mrs Pritchard, Mrs Marriott, Mrs Stringer and Miss Thompson.
We know that the children were excellent at reading at home last year and this is something we would like to continue this year. Each morning in year 4, the children will be asked to put their home/school diaries (reading journals) on their tables and will receive a dojo for reading at home which means they have a really positive start to the day. There is also a new addition to our dojo rewards on Monday mornings as journals which have entries for Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be awarded 3 dojos!
As well as reading regularly at home, we will be encouraging the children to spend a little time each night working on their times tables as they will be completing the national year four times table assessment in June 2022. In school, we will be using a mixture of simple test sheets, catchy songs and times table rock stars to help them learn and then quickly recall table facts up to 12 x 12. The children will start each day with a times table sheet and can earn dojos for getting 25 or more questions correct.
We will be using homework menus (just like year 3) which the children can choose tasks from and earn a whopping 3 dojos per completed task! Whilst the homework is accessible and fun for all, if children do tasks which are not on the list but are still helping them learn, dojo rewards will be awarded accordingly.
Our P.E. days this year are fluid so we would like the children to bring a P.E. kit (white t-shirt, black shorts and a suitable pair of trainers) in on a Monday and take this kit home on a Friday. We find that this means we can take advantage of better weather if an outdoor P.E. lesson needs to be moved or if the children need a change of clothes for any reason.
If you have any questions about any of this information feel free to catch us on the playground after school or use the e-mail addresses firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
