We've had another fantastic term with the children! They are continuing to make us so proud and are working very hard with their learning!
In our English lessons this term, we are looking at the poem ‘At the bottom of my garden by’ before starting our next novel, ‘The Mystery of The Egyptian Mummy’. In our spelling lessons, we will continue to group the children while we work on the RWI spelling programme. The children have made great progress. If you could continue to practise the spellings that we send home in their reading journals that would be really helpful. And in Maths, we will be focusing on Data, Fractions, Time and Shape.
Our final project in Year 3 involves us becoming historians as we investigate Ancient Egypt. We will be practising our art skills again as the children will be making an Egyptian clay pot and as well as investigating rocks and soils and learning about how the Egyptians lived.
The children will soon be given their new homework menus with a huge range of exciting activities designed to encourage families to get creative together. Homework tasks can be taken from the menu and completed at any point during the week. The suggestion is for one piece of homework to be completed per week but we encourage children to have a go at whichever tasks they choose. Dojo points will be awarded for every piece of homework that is completed.
As well as the homework tasks, we are still expecting children to be reading at home, practising their times tables and working on their spellings. Passwords for Times Table Rock Stars were sent out last term (there is a copy in the back of your child’s reading journal). Reading books can be changed every day if they need to be, please encourage your children to tell us if their book needs changing. Every time you sign your child’s reading journal, the children receive a dojo for reading at home. We also endeavour to change our school library books every week too! The Year 3 children are making great progress with their Reading Challenge books, with some children completing all the challenge!
Our P.E. days are still Tuesday and Thursday but we ask that children have their P.E. kits in school all week. Remember that PE kit includes black shorts and white t-shirts with pumps or trainers. We would also ask that parents remove earrings on the PE days, if children cannot do this themselves.
