We are so pleased to have all of our lovely children back in school! We missed them so much during lockdown but were made to smile every day with their excellent work and the photos that you all sent in. Thank you for all of your support with remote learning. Now that we are back, we are looking forward to another great term with lots of exciting learning activities.
In our English lessons this term, we are reading our new novel ‘Esio Trot’ by Roald Dahl. In English we love to get the children out of their seats to participate in socially distanced drama, including freeze frames and role-play. They were really great at this last term! In our spelling lessons, we will continue to group the children (within Y3) while we work on the RWI spelling programme. The children are already making great progress. If you could continue to practise the spellings that we send home in their red log book that would be really helpful. In Maths, we will be focusing on money, time, measure and shape.
Our final project in Year 3 involves us becoming historians as we delve into the past to learn all about the Ancient Maya. We will be practising our art skills again as the children sketch Mayan masks and will be learning a Mayan dance to the music that the children create themselves! We will also be dusting off our scientist outfits again to look at plants, rocks and soils.
The children have got their new homework menus and we've already seen a huge range of creative activities from you all. Please remember that homework tasks can be taken from the menu and completed at any point during the week. The suggestion is for one piece of homework to be completed per week but we encourage children to have a go at whichever tasks they choose. Dojo points will be awarded for every piece of homework that is completed.
As well as the homework tasks, we are still expecting children to be reading at home, practising their times tables and working on their spellings. Passwords for Times Table Rock Stars were sent out last term (there is a copy in the back of your child’s reading journal). Reading books can be changed every day if they need to be, please encourage your children to tell us if their book needs changing. Every time you sign your child’s reading journal, the children receive a dojo for reading at home. We also endeavour to change our school library books every week too! The Year 3 children are making great progress with their Reading Challenge books. We have a very serious competition going on across the two classes to see who can achieve the first GOLD award!
Our P.E. days are still Monday and Wednesday but we ask that children have their P.E. kits in school all week. Remember that PE kit includes black shorts and white t-shirts with pumps or trainers. We would also ask that parents remove earrings on the PE days, if children cannot do this themselves.
As always, if you need to contact us, you can use our class emails 3P@rosehill-juniors.co.uk and 3S@rosehill-juniors.co.uk. You could also follow us on twitter @RRJMrs Pritchard and @RRJMissSpooner to see photos of our work, learning environments and the children.
