Welcome to the home of 6B
To start the year, we will be studying Trash by Andy Mulligan. During our novel study, we will be reading through the text and will be involved in a range of immersive activities. We will use all that we have learned about the story and the characters to support us in different types of writing – including diaries, narrative and discussion.
In maths during the Autumn term, we will be looking at our place value knowledge before moving on to apply this to calculations. We will be using written methods to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers before moving on to using the 4 operations with fractions. As ever, we will be practising our times tables – lots of practise at home will really help in all areas of maths.
In Science we will be focusing on light. We will be thinking about how light moves and learning how light helps us to see. In all our science lessons, we will be continuing to develop our investigative skills and think about what makes a fair test. In topic, we will be studying the Maya and how they lived and using different lines of latitude and longitude in our map work.
In year 6, we have a big focus on personal organisation. The children should ensure that:
P.E. kit is in school every day. Children are to bring their kit on a Monday morning and take it home on a Friday. Our usual PE days are Monday and Thursday but kit should be in school every day just in case.
They are reading at home regularly – they should be reading most days.
They are practising and learning their timestables up to 12x12.
Homework is completed to a high standard and given in on time. Homework will be given out on a Thursday and should be returned by Tuesday.
They have their water bottle and indoor shoes in school every day.

Reading Champions
Our Reading Champions have an important role at Rosehill. They help to organise the reading in school and are responsible for making sure children’s views on reading are heard. They work as a team and inspire other children to have passion within reading. They are responsible for choosing and buying books for each classroom and work with the other children in the class to decide which ones should be bought.
