This summer term, we will be covering different text types through work on animals. We will be writing recounts, non-chronological reports and letters. We will taking part in a range of immersive activities which will help us to develop a deeper understanding about our work. Within lessons, we will use all of our learning and experiences to create writing that showcases all of the Year 6 writing skills we have learned over the year so far.

In maths, we will be using our knowledge of the four operations to solve different reasoning and problem solving questions and we will be covering a range of calculation and geometry skills in preparation for our SATs test in May. Furthermore, as ever, we will be practising our times tables as knowing these is important for all areas of maths – lots of practise at home using ttrockstars will really help with this. (Miss Bruce and Miss Ellis have copies of all usernames and passwords if they’ve been forgotten!)

In Science, we will be focusing on living things: how humans change and how to keep healthy. We will be looking at the circulatory and respiratory system as well as developing our knowledge of life saving in our work on Heartstart. In our science lessons, we will be continuing to develop our investigative skills and think about what makes a fair test.

In Year 6, we have a big focus on personal organisation and independence. The children should ensure that they are organised for every school day:

* P.E. Kit needs to be in school every day.

* They need to read at home regularly and have reading records in school everyday.

* They need to practise their timestables up to 12 x 12.

* Homework needs to be completed to a high standard and given in on time. Homework will be given out on a Thursday and should be returned by Tuesday.

* A water bottle and indoor shoes need to be in school every day.
