Year 6 Home

Welcome To Our Year 6 Home Page

Here you will be able to find out key information and specific updates for all children in Year 6, along with a chance to catch up with what your child has been up to in school. You will find content for both Y6 classes on this page so even if we have mixed the children for a particular activity, you will still be able to see what your own child has been up to easily in one location.

To the right-hand side (or possibly below if viewing on a mobile device) you will see links to our wider content such as our Year 6 Blog and further down the page you will see the latest posts from our class Twitter Feeds.

At the very bottom of the page, we will post any useful documents that you or your child might need this year. Most of these will open in a new window but should be available for download if you wish to keep a copy.

Whilst many updates will come through the Latest News area in the Parents Section, its worth keeping an eye out in here too...

As ever, we hope your child will have a great time in Year 6, but please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any worries or need to update us on anything of a more sensitive nature.

Kind Regards,

Mrs Norris & Miss Smith

Key information for Parents & Guardians

Class Routine

When the children come into class, they have their reading journals signed whilst completing an activity on their desks. They then either have an assembly or we read together as a class. English is the first lesson of the day, before morning break, followed by guided and reading and maths, after break. After lunch, we have our wider curriculum lessons such as geography, history, science, art, music, computing and PE.

Please see the attachment below for a full outline of our week in school.

Lunch Menu Choices

Every day, we have 4 lunch options (red, yellow, blue and green) and children choose their dinner as soon as they enter the classroom in a morning. The red option is our meat/fish dish, yellow is typically our vegetarian dish, green is a jacket potato with a choice of toppings and blue is a sandwich. All four meal options are substituted with vegetables including chips, wedges or potatoes and there is a salad bar available every day for the children to help themselves. Children not wanting a school dinner can bring sandwiches from home.

Please see the attachment below for a sample of the menus which run on a three-week rollover.

PE Kit

Our PE days are usually a Tuesday and Thursday however, this can sometimes change, so we ask that children have PE in school every day, Monday to Friday.

One of our PE lessons will be outdoors so whilst our usual PE kit will be a white t-shirt and black shorts, children are welcome to bring in joggers and jumpers to wear on outdoor PE sessions.

Reading Diaries

Reading diaries are a key communication tool between home and school. Every time we hear your child read, we will make a note in their reading journal and we ask that you do the same. Children should be heard read as regularly as possible, but we ask that children are heard read at least 3 times a week.

Supporting Your Child's Learning

In terms of supporting children at home, practise makes perfect! We ask that the children read regularly at home (with comments being made in the children's reading journal to earn a dojo!), practise their timetables regularly (every child has a TT rockstars log in) and complete at least one piece of homework each week. Homework is due in, every Tuesday.

Singing Assembly

In our singing assemblies we try to share the love of singing together. We choose a range of modern and classic songs and also take requests from the children. By clicking on the link below, you will be able to see some of the content we use on our purpose-built website. You can practice and sing along at home to help raise your confidence and learn some of the more difficult parts within the songs. Click Here to visit our Singing Assembly Website.
