Our School

Ethos

"Be Positive, Keep Learning"

For many years, Rosehill has promoted a positive ethos where children learn to develop resilience and spirit. Our school motto "Be Positive, Keep Learning" is short and simple but very important to us. It is found on the school badge, we refer to it most days in school and consequently, its message runs through all we do...

At Rosehill Junior School, we strive to maintain an ethos in which the unique value of each person is acknowledged, their needs recognised and their talents nurtured, so that they may reach their full potential.

Vision and Values

At Rosehill School we strive to work in partnership with both home and the wider community to provide our children with an all-round education of the highest possible quality. As a community school, we play a key role in the Rawmarsh community where our aim is to work closely with all stakeholders for the benefit of everyone.

We work hard to maintain an ethos in which the unique value of each person is acknowledged, the needs of each are recognised and the talents of each are nurtured to their full potential. Our vision is for all our children to reach their full potential as successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens.

To achieve this, we recognise the importance of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Need (seen below) and use this model to ensure our children achieve their full potential emotionally, physically and academically. We promote emotional growth through the work of our Inclusion Team and seek to strengthen relationships through our wider curriculum offer such as residential, sporting and enrichment activities. During your child’s time at Rosehill, they will be offered a wide range of opportunities to provide them with an all-round education of the highest possible quality.

Across the whole school, we strive to embed a Growth Mindset where challenge is not only embraced but celebrated and where failure is simply seen as an essential part of any learning journey.

“If you're not prepared to be wrong, you'll never come up with anything original.”

Ken Robinson, The Element: How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything

As educators, we want our children to be active learners, develop character, independence and resilience. We want them to enjoy every day at school, not because the work is easy, but because the work is challenging and they want to rise to it.

When children aren’t given the space to struggle through things on their own, they don’t learn to problem-solve very well. They don’t learn to be confident in their own abilities, and it can affect their self-esteem.”

Ken Robinson, Creative Schools: The Grassroots Revolution That's Transforming Education

We also strive to remove any barriers of social or economic deprivation and raise aspiration to help all children believe that they can achieve anything if they put their mind to it.

We share the video below with our children in order to showcase all the amazing talent that has already come out of Rotherham and consequently, raise their aspirations and self belief.

What we become as our lives evolve depends on the quality of our experiences here and now.”

Ken Robinson, Out of Our Minds: Learning to be Creative

Above all else, we want our children to be happy, confident and safe in an environment where they can be themselves, laugh and smile! We want to build lifelong memoires and friendships, to ignite a spark that will not be quenched... an insatiable thirst for knowledge... a desire to learn and become the best version of themselves! We want our children to love life, to make a difference - no matter how small and to have fun while doing it!
