This Spring term, we will be visiting a dystopian society during our Novel Study work on the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Throughout the novel study, we will taking part in a range of immersive activities which will help us to develop a deeper understanding about the life of Katniss Everdeen in Panem. Within lessons, we will use all of our learning and experiences to create writing of different genres: narrative, discussion, report and recount.
In maths, we will be using our knowledge of the four operations to solve different reasoning and problem solving questions. Through our geometry work, we will be calculating unknown angles and finding unknowns through our work on algebra. Furthermore, as ever, we will be practising our times tables as knowing these is important for all areas of maths – lots of practise at home using ttrockstars will really help with this. (Miss Bruce and Miss Ellis have copies of all usernames and passwords if they’ve been forgotten!)
In Science, we will be focusing on evolution and inheritance. We will be thinking about how we can classify and group organisms as well as looking at the impact of evolution. In our science lessons, we will be continuing to develop our investigative skills and think about what makes a fair test.
In Year 6, we have a big focus on personal organisation and independence. The children should ensure that they are organised for every school day:
* P.E. Kit needs to be in school every day.
* They need to read at home regularly and have reading records in school everyday.
* They need to practise their timestables up to 12 x 12.
* Homework needs to be completed to a high standard and given in on time. Homework will be given out on a Thursday and should be returned by Tuesday.
* A water bottle and indoor shoes need to be in school every day.
