Welcome to Year 3
Home of 3P (Mrs Pritchard's class) and 3D (Mrs Downing's class)
Thank you for visiting the Year 3 section of our school website. Here you will find lots of useful information about what your child will be learning this term. Why not follow @RRJMrsPritchard on Twitter to see regular updates, photographs and examples of work.
Expectations for the school year:
P.E. kit is in school every day. Children are to bring their kit on a Monday morning and take it home on a Friday.
The children read at home every night.
Homework (given out on a Friday) will be in by Wednesday morning at the latest.
Children should have their water bottle and indoor shoes in school every day.
This term we will be taking a look at Ancient Egypt - Who were the Egyptians? Where did they come from? Why was the Nile so important? We will order important events from the time using a timeline, look at the different groups of people who lived in Egypt, write using hieroglyphics and make canopic jars. This term the children will also become science investigators - carrying out experiments, learning about sound, animals and the human body.
An important part of our topic work sees us visit Leeds City Museum where the children have the opportunity to look at Egyptian artefacts and take part in workshops about Ancient Egyptian life.
The children will have the chance to study two novels this term – Anthony Browne’s Voices in the Park and Roald Dahl’s Esio Trot - be prepared for them to be excited about tortoises and want to make tortoise catchers at home!
As you know, children have to know all of their multiplication and division facts up to 12 x 12 by the end of Year 4, so in this term, we will be focusing on all children knowing their 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables. We will also we working on telling the time and using money, so extra practise at home would be appreciated.
Don't hesitate to pop in to school and see us - our doors are always open!
